2. Objectivos:

Esta unidade curricular visa contribuir para a compreensão sociológica do problema das classes sociais, na sua articulação estreita com os fenómenos da estratificação e da mobilidade social nas sociedades contemporâneas. Recupera o pensamento sociológico clássico neste domínio e complementa-o com algumas das mais recentes abordagens teóricas e metodológicas. Por outro lado, propõe a análise de algumas realidades sociais que se relacionam directa ou indirectamente com a estratificação social, como sejam o género, a pobreza e a exclusão social ou as minorias étnicas. Esta unidade apresenta, por conseguinte, como objectivo central facultar aos estudantes uma visão geral das abordagens sociológicas da estratificação social e de fenómenos com ela relacionados, procurando facultar-lhes critérios e instrumentos de análise, destinados à investigação empírica destes fenómenos.

1. A problemática das classes sociais, da estratificação e da mobilidade social no pensamento sociológico clássico 1.1 Elementos conceptuais básicos (divisão social do trabalho e diferenciação social; principais escalas de estratificação; mobilidade social: conceito e tipologia) 1.2 Géneros principais e híbridos de estratificação social (as ordens; o sistema de castas; as classes sociais; os tipos intermédios) 2. Estratificação e mobilidade social nas sociedades de modernidade tardia: dimensões globais e sistémicas e dimensões simbólicas da quotidianidade 2.1 Principais tendências na distribuição da riqueza e do rendimento: velhas classes e novas classes 2.2 Grupos étnicos e minorias nas sociedades plurais: perspectivas e desafios 2.3 O problema do género e da condição feminina no quadro da estratificação social 2.4 Potenciais de vida, estilos de vida e cultura: rendimento, trabalho, família, educação, religião, política, desvio, lazer, identidade 2.5 O fenómeno da pobreza e da exclusão social e sua relação com a estratificação social 3. Questões metodológicas e de investigação 3.1 Campos de inquirição e principais opções metodológicas 3.2 Critério, factores e dimensões da estratificação social
