Students

UTL has 22 503 students enrolled in academic diploma awarding programmes: 17 568 students are in 1st cycle and integrated masters programmes, 3 223 in Ms.D. courses and 1 712 in Ph.D. programmes. Numerous students follow other learning and post-graduate courses.

Students in 1st cycle and integrated master programmes are on average 22 years old (60% male). Ms.D. students are 29 years old on average (57% male) and Ph.D. candidates are 37 years old (59% male).

Student admission

In 2009/2010 a total of 19 880 candidates applied to the 3 360 opening vacancies for 1st cycle and integrated Master degree courses.

The number of opening places of 1st cycle and integrated Master degree courses for 2010/2011 was 3 726, distributed as follows:

Student exchange

The EU student exchange flow of UTL under the SOCRATES/ERASMUS programme totalled 1080 students: 634 in-coming students and 446 out-going students.

The exchange with Brazil totalled 53 students: 25 in-coming students, 28 out-going students.

Academic staff

Academic staff totals 1 822, with 76% Ph.D. holders: 218 Professors, 1 274 Associate and Assistant Professors, 280 Assistants. The teaching staff is on average 47 years old and 69% male.

Administration and technical staff totals 1 227.

Research

UTL has 50 research centres and institutes, covering 18 scientific areas and with an average dimension of 50 researchers/unit. In the last international independent evaluation, 82% of the research units were classified as Excellent or Very Good.
