Fulbright programme was established in 1946 and aims to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries, through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills. It is the largest U.S. international exchange program offering opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide.
The UTL Fulbright Satellite Information Centre
Following the signing of a Cooperation Protocol between the university and the Luso-American Cultural Commission, generally known as the Fulbright Commission, on 28 July 2004, a Fulbright Satellite Information Centre was created within UTL’s External Relations Office. Its purpose is to provide interested parties with guidance on the services and resources provided by the Fulbright Information Centre, to which it channels requests for information about studying in the United States.
The goal of the Fulbright Commission, established in 1960, is to strengthen cultural relations between Portugal and the United States by promoting cultural interchange. To this end, it runs an Information Centre in Lisbon providing information about studying in the United States.
In the context of growing interest among EU students, teachers and researchers in the opportunities for study in the United States and as part of a strategy to promote the internationalisation of UTL, the Centre aims to facilitate access to information about the US education system and application processes. For this purpose, the Fulbright Satellite Information Centre provides complete and up-to-date information on schedules for public information sessions and admission tests for US universities, a list of publications that can be consulted at the Fulbright Information Centre, the publication of official statements about the Portuguese and US education systems, and Fulbright scholarships.
